“Infidel” by Ayaan Hirsi Ali

Hello IYBC,

“Infidel” literally one without faith, is a name used in certain religions especially “Christianity” or “Islam” for one who has no religious beliefs or who doubts or rejects the central tenants of the particular religion.

Do you think Ayaan Hirsi Ali is challenging Islam by speaking up for the rights of women?  she believes that the enslavement of women lies at the heart of all of the most fanatical interpretations of Islam, creating ” a culture that generates more backwardness with every generation”

Ayaan Hirsi is lives in an undisclosed location because of death threats on her life.

Is she truly free?

Do you think it was a good idea for her to help Theo Van Gogh make a short film entitled “Submission” who thesis was the Koran is an act of man, not of God ,and therefore be interpreted and applied to modern era in a way different from seventh-century Arabia. He was assassinated.

Do you think when Ayaan Hirsi Ali confronts the issues of women, she puts them at risk because of the backlash of resentment toward her is taken out on the women?

IYBC these and other questions will be discussed on 21 June 2012 6:30 pm at the Augusta Richmond County Public Library 3rd floor, 823 Telfair St. Aug, GA 30901 Thomas Patterson will be our facilitator.
